Another day, another spy shot of the new Porsche 911, codenamed the 991. This time the sexy new rear lights are caught lighting up a tunnel in Germany as the car is spotted out testing.
As we head to the full reveal at the Frankfurt show in September, so the disguise starts to peel off and we get to see more of the replacement for Stuttgart’s iconic 911. This time round an Italian website has images of the car caught in a tunnel, new tail lights blazing. And it’s looking like Porsche is taking a leaf out of Audi’s book for sexy LED designs. Mind you, we can also see some Aston Martin in there too.
Further details are also emerging about the engine range of the new 911. The basic Carrera model will carry a flat four 3.4 litre petrol engine, smaller than before (the old model is a 3.6). Although it shares bore and stroke dimensions with the Cayman S and Boxster S, there is little in common between them. Said to be good for 345bhp, power is up by 4bhp on the car it replaces and 29bhp over the Cayman S.
The Carrera S retains the 3.8 litre six cylinder boxer engine of the current 911 (codenamed 997), but thanks to exhaust and mapping tweaks now achieves 394bhp, up 18bhp on the current model.
No specific fuel consumption or emissions figures have yet been released, but they are said to be 12 – 15 per cent better than previous. That means potentially 34mpg in the base Carrera and CO2 levels below 200g/km.
A seven speed PDK (dual clutch) will be offered alongside a seven speed manual — a first for a series production car.
