BMW are introducing the first of their exciting new performance models that fill the gap between the M Sport models and the high-performance M series which are available to purchase, lease or finance.

In the UK, the first of these sleek and powerful machines will be the BMW X5 M50d and the BMW X6 M50d.

One of BMW’s most powerful engines

Both the BMW X5 and X6 run on BMW’s most powerful diesel engine to date, delivering unparalleled quality performance.

It’s also the first of BMW’s diesel engines to feature three turbochargers.
The result: an electronically limited top speed of 151 mph, and a whopping 740Nm of torque.

The X5 reaches 62mph in just 5.4 seconds from zero, while the X6 outdoes it by a fraction of a second, clocking in at 5.3 seconds.

Using the latest BMW Efficient Dynamics technology, including a new brake energy regeneration system, delivers a fuel efficiency of 37.7 mpg on the X5 and 36.7 on the X6.

A leading drive system

As expected from a performance BMW, both the X5 and X6 use sophisticated technologies to deliver the ultimate driving experience.

Both BMW’s run as four wheel drives, using the BMW intelligent electronic xDrive system.

For added performance, this favours the rear-wheels, but can redirect power across all wheels in milliseconds if it senses this is needed.

BMW engineers have tuned the chassis and powertrain settings specifically for each car, ensuring highly responsive, powerful cars.

Striking and immediately recognisable

The leading impetus for the design of both BMW’s was aerodynamics and practicality.

Among the industry-leading aerodynamic features are three-section front apron channels, feeding extra air into the engine, and air flaps beneath the front apron, which improve stability and thus handling.

Both cars are finished in sleek Shadowline trim, and the BMW X5 comes with 19 inch V-spoke alloys, while the BMW X6 boasts impressive 20 inch double spoke alloys.

The BMW X5 and X6 will be available to purchase, or on lease or finance (subject to status) from 16 June 2012. Prices start at £60,325 OTR for the BMW X5 and £62,260 OTR for the BMW X6.
