Range Rover’s Evoque has won the prestigious Scottish Car of the Year title at the 2011 Scottish Car of the Year Awards.

The motoring industry and the Association of Scottish Motoring Writers (ASMW) selected the winner and recognised that superb new cars had entered the market during the past 12 months.

The Range Rover Evoque has already achieved a fantastic 18,000 advanced orders. The Range Rover Evoque won the SUV/Crossover category and the BMW X3 finished in second spot.

Competition was very close in the Small category where the excellent Kia Picanto was ahead of the second placed Audi A1.

The fine new Ford Focus was the winner of the Family car sector with the Peugeot 508 in second place. The Estate sector was won by the all-new Hyundai i40 with Peugeot taking second place with their 508 SW.

In the Executive sector, the Audi A7 won the top prize just ahead of the Volvo V60. The MPV category had a clear winner. The Seat Alhambra won comfortably with the Ford C-MAX in second place.

In the Drop Top section the VW Golf emerged as the winner despite opposition from BMW and Audi. The BMW 6-Series was second.

This year’s winner in the Diesel section was the Jaguar’s XF 2.2d with Volvo‘s V60 DRIVe in second place. The Sporting category was secured by Jaguar’s XKR-S with the BMW 1 Series M Coupe in second place.

Peugeot‘s iON took the first ever Electric category award beating the Nissan Leaf into second place. The Eco category was very tough this year with the frugal Seat Ibiza Ecomotive taking the title ahead of the Fiat 500 Twinair.

The awards, held in the ASMW’s 50th anniversary year, also recognised the Jaguar E-Type, which won the Bridge of Weir Leather Company sponsored accolade.

On the night, Land Rover acknowledged that Evoque was the result of a real team effort  across the company, which helped to create an outstanding vehicle.

Previously, Land Rover Discovery 4 received the top award in 2009 while the Freelander 2 won its category shortly after launch in 2006; demonstrating that the brand is truly award-winning.
