The Hyundai i40 has received the Golden Award at the EuroCarBody Conference, finishing ahead of other large car companies to secure the valuable prize. Competitors in the contest were from Audi, BMW, Ford, Mazda, Mercedes-Benz, Nissan, Opel, Land Rover and Volkswagen.

Hyundai collected the top prize, which is widely considered as the highest accolade in the motor industry. The EuroCarBody awards are judged by over 500 delegates, including motor industry experts. The close runner-up in Hyundai’s category was the Audi A6 and the Mercedes B-Class was in third place.

The prize was awarded at an event hosted by Automotive Circle International, an organisation consisting of top automotive suppliers and manufacturers.

The new i40 was designed and engineered in Europe and will be available in Estate and Saloon body styles from 2012. Hyundai’s use of steel and improved joints means that the i40′s lightweight body has high energy absorption efficiency, leading to great improvements in overall safety levels.

The judges praised the engineering and effective development of materials, as well as the production efficiency of the i40. The i40 was also recently awarded a maximum five-star rating in the Euro NCAP crash test, demonstrating its excellent safety record.

The i40 has also been rated in the lowest insurance grouping for a D-segment car in the UK, representing great value for money. Also, Hyundai’s comprehensive Five Year Triple Care package comprises a five-year unlimited warranty, five years’ roadside assistance, and five years of vehicle health checks.
