Kia have unveiled their latest concept car, the Trick’ster, at the Chicago Auto Show.
Designed to be a tough-looking sports concept, able to create a stir on the racetrack as well as the road, it is a glimpse of how Kia might develop their popular Soul model.
Kia’s bold attitude
One of the ideas for the Kia design team was to create a tough bulldog stance with approachability, while still maintaining strong visual links with the Soul range.
The attention grabbing Whiteout and Inferno Orange colour scheme immediately conveys the Kia Trick’ster’s boldness.
Muscular lines meet aerodynamic engineering in the Kia Trick’ster’s body.
Underneath the Kia’s well-defined wheel arches are bespoke high-performance wheels, fitted with 19 inch racing tyres.
At the front, Kia have taken their signature grille and tweaked it with air intake slits and carbon fibre trim to give it a racing edge.
The striking lower air intake grille dominates the nose of the Kia Trick’ster.
It is capable of channeling impressive amounts of air to the engine, keeping it cool even under grueling conditions.
Fresh take on the Kia Soul
The Kia Trick’ster’s angled roof immediately picks it out as coming from Kia’s Soul line.
Yet the Trick’ster makes a significant, racing-inspired departure from the classic Soul design.
The first hint of this is the lack of rear doors.
A glance inside reveals that Kia have stripped out the rear passenger seats, replacing them with practical equipment storage for racing essentials like protective gear and tools.
Emergency supplies live within a distinctive Inferno Orange box.
Dreaming big for Kia Trick’ster performance
The Kia Trick’ster is unashamedly designed for speed.
Its turbocharged two litre engine delivers 66% more power than in the production Soul models.
With a larger wheelbase than the standard Soul, the Kia Trick’ster also drives on a low-slung chassis and specially tuned sport suspension.
Striking interior
The Kia Trick’ster’s interior features Inferno Orange highlights set against a Granite Grey backdrop.
Leather and suede is used throughout, imparting a luxury tactile feel.
At the risk of disappointing motoring enthusiasts, Kia say that they have no plans to make a production model of the Trick’ster.
But its appearance at Chicago does suggest that the Kia range will be featuring a sports-oriented model or two in the future, expanding the selection of Kia’s available for purchase, lease or finance.
