However the British Summer turns out, Lexus has all bases covered with news of a limited edition Lexus IS 250C convertible and a glass roof option for the Lexus RX 450h hybrid SUV.
You may not have seen any of the coupe cabriolet versions of Lexus’ IS compact executive — I know I haven’t. So it’s probably fair that just 50 examples of the limited editions Lexus IS 250C models will be available. The difference to the standard model is the red and black semi-aniline leather interior; and a numbered plaque denoting its build number within the limited run, hidden tastefully within the glove box. In all other respects the car is as before, so includes the standard model’s 2.5 litre V6 petrol engine with 208bhp, good for a top speed of 130mph and 0-62mph in 9.0 seconds dead. You’re probably buying a car like this to pose than go fast or save the planet, so the above probably won’t matter much and nor will 30.7mpg and CO2 emissions of 213g/km. That you can get the metal roof down in just 20 seconds when you see someone you want to impress will matter however.
The Lexus IS 250C Limited Edition is on sale now, with a price of £39,990 on the road.
Lexus’ luxury crossover SUV, the RX 450h, gets a large glass panoramic roof option at the same time. It’s fixed, so not for those looking for wind-in-the-hair fun or a tan, but gives a great view out while lifting the overall lighting levels in the five seat cabin.
No other changes to the model have been announced, meaning the 3.5 litre V6 petrol/electric hybrid remains unchanged, achieving 44.8mpg and CO2 levels of just 145g/km. 124mph should be possible on the autobahn, with 0-62mph taking a fairly swift 7.8 seconds.
Available only on the mid spec Lexus RX 450h SE-I model, the special order roof option is priced at £900. You’ll need to spend £48,405 to get the car first though.
