German car magazine Auto Bild has revealed the look of the 2012 Mercedes B-Class, due to launch at the Frankfurt motor show in September.
We’ve shown spy shots of the car before, but with the disguise removed we get to see styling cues common with other Mercedes models such as the E-Class. The Auto Bild images are still renderings, rather than official photos, but based on inside information and the most revealing spy shots.
The next B-Class will be built on a new front-wheel drive platform with a conventional unibody frame, not the sandwich floor construction that the old model shared with the original A-Class. The new platform seen here will also be used for the next A-Class, with power plants coming from Renault as well as in house engines for the upper range units. Both 6-speed manual and dual-clutch gearboxes will be available with stop/start technology.
In addition to petrol and diesel engines, the next-generation B-Class will be introduced later as a plug-in hybrid (E-Cell Plus), an all-electric (E-Cell) and a fuel cell (F-Cell) variant.
The new B-Class will offer more interior room thanks to lower floor, and in addition to five-door hatchback, the line-up will expand to a saloon, four door coupe (a baby-CLS being termed the CLA), and crossover variants.
