New Renault Scenic Range Unveiled

Renault have revealed their new look Scénic 2012 range. Changes to Europe’s top-selling compact MPV range include more contemporary styling, new downsized engines and the introduction of affordable technologies.

Having sold just under 3.9 million models since the range was launched in 1996, these updates aim to cement the Scénic range’s position as the most popular vehicles in their class.

New, more fuel-efficient engines

The two new, downsized engines are the most striking upgrades to the Renault Scénic and Grand Scénic. They are a result of Renault’s ambition to become Europe’s number one manufacturer when it comes to low CO2 emissions, without losing performance.

For families looking to reduce fuel consumption, the two engines offer impressive savings. The 1.5 litre diesel option gives 68.9 mpg, while the 1.2 litre petrol engine offers a very frugal 49.6 mpg. These represent savings of 12% and 20% on previous models respectively.

Renault also brings a touch of Formula 1 engineering to the school run, as the 1.5 diesel engine sports Stop & Start and brake energy regeneration.

Both engines offer lower CO2 emissions, with the diesel reaching a record low of 105 grams per kilometre, a reduction of 23g/km on the previous comparable option.

Affordable technology

Renault reaffirm their commitment to providing enhanced everyday safety in the Scénic range, while making the driving experience as stress-free as possible.

The Renault Scénic and Grand Scénic are the first of their vehicles to have the marque’s new Visio System, designed to support driver vigilance and night vision.

A camera triggers an audible alarm if it detects that the car has strayed out of its lane, and is able to switch the headlights automatically from main to dipped beams depending on whether or not it can sense street lights.

Other new driver-assistance technology includes Hill Start Assist and motorway mode indicators.

Updated, sharper design

The new Renault Scénic 2012 models refresh the range’s signature fluid lines with a more contemporary front end. The rear lights are remodelled to look more dynamic.

This facelift gives the two new Renaults an updated look, while still remaining recognisably part of the Scenic range.

Renault are planning on releasing more detailed specifications and prices closer to the launch in the spring. In the UK, the Renault Scénic and Grand Scénic will be available to pre-order from the 1st of February, with the first batch of owners getting their Renaults in March.
