Volkswagen Triumphs At Van Awards

The Award-Winning Volkswagen Caddy

It’s been an exceptional week for Volkswagen, who are celebrating winning six different awards for their vans, from two different award ceremonies.

Volkswagen won three awards at both the What Van? 2012 awards and the Fleet Van Awards 2011. The Caddy and Transporter range were particularly honoured, each taking multiple awards.

This comes hot on the heels of Volkswagen being announced Most Reliable Van Manufacturer in the FN50 awards.

The Volkswagen Caddy

Volkswagen’s range of smaller vans took the Fleet Van Small Van of the Year award. Fleet Van editor Trevor Gelken cited the range’s brand new engines, range, good residual values and excellent customer service as decisive factors in the Volkswagen Caddy’s victory.

The specialist Volkswagen Caddy 4MOTION won the What Van? 4×4 Van of the Year, filling what Paul Barker, What Van? editor, describes as “a small but important niche”.

The new TDI common rail engines in the Caddy range are all Euro 5-compliant and quieter and more refined than those in previous models.

Despite its compact size the standard Volkswagen Caddy has a 3.2m2 load volume, and can carry up to a 703kg payload. The larger Caddy Maxi can transport loads up to 4.2m2 and 753kg.

The Volkswagen Transporter

This bestselling van, with a heritage dating back to the 1950s, is described as simply “legendary” by Trevor Gelken.

The Volkswagen Transporter won the Fleet Van Medium Panel Van of the Year, as it has done every year since the awards started.

It is also the Fleet Van Van of the Year, reflecting the judges’ belief that the VW Transporter is significantly superior to its competition in the medium-sized van sector.

The top of the range vehicle, the Volkswagen Transporter Sportline was also the What Van? Editor’s Choice. It was lauded by the judges as being “the most desirable light commercial vehicle” available at the moment.

Powered by an impressive 2.0 litre, 180PS BiTDI twin turbo engine, and with a distinctive, desirable appearance, the Transporter Sportline combines luxury and practicality.

The boundary between work and pleasure is blurred thanks to the VW Transporter Sportline’s as-standard Kenwood Multimedia System, with its 7″ colour touch screen.

This gives drivers access to European Garmin sat nav, as well as connectivity with Bluetooth, iPhones, iPods and phones.

The Volkswagen Amarok

The sleek and muscular Volkswagen Amarok is the What Van? Pick of the Year for 2012, commended for its innovative contribution to the pick-up market.

A tough 2.0 163 PS diesel engine makes towing and carrying heavy loads easy work, and the VW Amarok does this while delivering competitive fuel efficiency and CO2 emissions.

Inside, the Volkswagen Amarok is designed to ensure that it is a comfortable passenger vehicle too, with climate control and a high-tech sound system.
