Volvo cars deliver the lowest CO2 emissions in Europe

Volvo Car Corporation is leading the way as a car manufacturer committed to reducing carbon dioxide emissions, as shown by an annual analysis conducted by T&E, the European Federation for Transport and Environment.

Volvo Car Corporation has slashed their CO2 reduction emissions by nine percent, as a result of their environmental focus under the “DRIVe towards zero” banner.

Volvo intends to decrease all of its cars to an average of 95 grams of carbon dioxide per kilometre across total Volvo car sales by 2020. Whether they can achieve this target depends on developments in legislation, incentives, energy availability and, ultimately, customer demand.

Volvo Car Corporation’s CO2 strategy also includes electrified cars with varying degrees of hybridisation, diesel and petrol engines and alternative fuels. Sales of Volvo fuel-efficient diesel engines have been very successful, leading to continuing major reductions in carbon dioxide emissions.

The analysis conducted clearly demonstrates how well European car manufacturers have succeeded in cutting CO2 emissions and fuel consumption for new cars. Carbon dioxide emissions from new cars sold in the EU dropped by 3.7 percent in 2010.

Congratulations to Volvo for their success in improving environmental performance.
