Mercedes-Benz joins the ranks with its new soft-roader GLA 4×4

Mercedes has launched it’s crossover and creates a blend that works surprisingly well. Though it doesn’t have the road presence and the elevated driving position of a proper 4×4. See what else Tom Steward of the Express.co.uk has to say;

WITH the sales success of small soft-roaders such as the Audi Q3, BMW X1 and Range Rover Evoque it was only going to be a matter of time before Mercedes followed suit with a car of its own.

However, unlike some crossover models which have quasi-SUV styling but no off-road capability, the GLA is equipped for and can deal with rougher terrain than its suave styling suggests.

Unlike the mainstream crossover market, Mercedes expects the majority of its GLA sales to be four-wheel drive, hence the fact that two out of the three initial engines offered will be available only as 4x4s and also only with an automatic gearbox.

The same engine, albeit tuned for 170bhp, is fitted to the 220CDI model which is expected to be the best-seller while also managing 0 to 60mph in 8.3 seconds and on to an eventual 134mph top speed.
