Everyone knows and loves Porsche for their arsenal of sports cars and super cars. No one associates the German automotive giant with hatchbacks.
But that is all set to change as Porsche prepare to unleash their first ever five-door hatch on a mostly unsuspecting public.
Plans for a Porsche wagon were first drawn up in 2010, with appetites further whetted by the unveiling of the Sport Turismo concept at the Paris Motor Show in 2012.
Four years on, and Porsche have now finally confirmed that they are preparing a Porsche wagon for the first ever time.
Porsche Panamera Wagon
No one is yet sure when the new Porsche Panamera wagon will be available in the UK, but it’s not expected to be released in the U.S. until 2018 – which means we should get it sooner.
“We have to have some patience for the wagon to arrive in the U.S.,” said Porsche’s CEO in North America.
“But we are confident that this car will be well received here, despite the fact that this country doesn’t really like hatchbacks or wagons.”
The four-door Panamera is set to be showcased at the 2016 Paris Motor Show, and has been slated for a 2017 European release.
It’s the first time the brand have sold such a car, though it isn’t the first time it’s built one.
Back in 1988, the brand put together a hatch but never took it to market.
Let’s hope this one is better.
