Choosing the right car is all about compromise, however never has a compromise been more acceptable than the Seat Leon 2.0 TDi, and let me explain why.
If you want a sporty roadster but your partner points out the need for a family car, if you want a VW Golf GTi but the budget doesn’t stretch that far then the Seat Leon FR is the answer on all counts! With five doors and split folding rear seats, a raft of safety measures including front and side airbags and anti lock brakes, the Seat is a sensible family car.
But if you want 258 lb/ft of torque, sports suspension set up, racy body styling and 0 – 60 mph in a respectable 8.2 seconds the Seat Leon 2.0 TDi delivers yet again. From its 17inch alloy wheels to the delivery of 170bhp to the tarmac via the traction control system this car is one dramatic package! And yet it will still produce 56.5 mpg which is an important consideration with the recently reported rise at the petrol pumps about to bite.
The great aspect of owning a Leon is that it falls within the VW family and as such enjoys the same technology and equipment standards. The stalks and switches click with that satisfying sound of quality and there is a pleasing range of trim materials to choose from.
It would be hard to find anything in the same league as the Leon for the same price. The all round versatility, fun and excitement on offer here combined with practicality, safety and economy make a compelling case.
