Pricier than the Ford Fiesta Zetec S but offers more performance and equipment
Technically, the Vauxhall has been available for a few years but, not to be outdone, the Clubsport version is a more powerful and faster version of the regular VXR. However, Corsa VXR Clubsport buyers are unlikely to be put off by the £3, 395 price rise to £22, 390 because most are Vauxhall loyalists. Usually aged from 20 to 45, they will have bought Vauxhalls before and probably have more in the family.
Powering the Clubsport is a tweaked version of the turbocharged 1.6-litre petrol engine found in the standard VXR.
As well as the outright power increase, there is also noticeably more shove from the engine.
These figures may not seem like much but coupled to a clever system that minimises wheel spin in the front-wheel drive Corsa, they are enough to lower the 0 to 60mph time from 7.2 seconds to 6.5 seconds.
