Are Hyundai Reliable?
Reliability of Hyundai’s range of vehicles is high, with owners reporting few issues in their cars. In 2018 Hyundai was awarded 14th out of 36 car manufacturers by Which? in their reliability review of the year (a survey of over 51,000 car drivers conducted over a three month period at the beginning of 2018).
The History of Hyundai
Hyundai was founded in South Korea in 1967. The company owns and runs the largest car manufacturing facility in the world, which is based in Ulsan, South Korea. Every year 1.6 million cars are produced from that one facility and these cars are sold in 193 countries (including the UK). As of 2015, Hyundai is the third largest manufacturer of vehicles in the world.
The first car Hyundai sold in the UK was the Ford Cortina – a car that they made from 1968 to 1982 in cooperation with Ford. In 1982, the Hyundai Pony was produced for sale in the UK, the first Korean car to be sold in the country.
In 2006 Hyundai hired Thomas Bürkle, who previously worked for BMW on the both the BMW 3 and 6 series cars. Hyundai’s current design philosophy is strongly influenced by nature. In 2015, a ‘topless’ Hyundai Santa Fe replaced the previously-used bullet-proof Mercedes as the Popemobile.
So, whether you’re looking for a charming and compact i20 hatchback, or the incredibly eco-friendly IONIQ hatchback, Hyundai has something for you.
