Reliability of Mercedes cars

Mercedes has maintained a reputation for the quality and durability of their vehicles. In 2014 this won them an accolade from as a brand with the lowest vehicle recall rate.

Reliability is something that Mercedes have a mixed relationship with, they go through periods where their cars are ranked incredibly well and times when they are not as dependable, with the stop-star in the 2018 reliability survey by Which?, Mercedes was awarded 3 out of 5 stars and came 27th out of 36 car brands reviewed by 51,000 car owners.

History of Mercedes

The Mercedes can trace its history back to the creation of the first petrol-powered car in 1886. Since then the company has gone through many changes. In 1902 the 3-point star which has long been associated with the brand was trademarked by Daimler for Mercedes products.

In 1926 DMG (Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft) and Benz & Cie, two competing manufacturers, merged to become one company, Daimler-Benz. They presented their first joint venture at the Berlin Motor Show that year. Just 10 years later, in 1936, the brand released their first diesel passenger car and then started to focus their attention on car safety. Forty years after they started working on safety, Mercedes-Benz released their antilock braking system (ABS), something they had started to develop in 1970. The brand is still working, today, on creating new and innovative ways to improve safety in their vehicles.
