Unfortunately, the servicing costs are not included in your lease contract. However, you can get something called a maintenance agreement, which adds the servicing costs to the monthly payments.
What is a maintenance agreement?
A maintenance agreement is an additional fee added to your monthly repayments. This covers the servicing costs for the entire duration of your lease contract.
Do I need a maintenance agreement?
A maintenance agreement is better suited to those who are have longer contracts or are doing higher mileage. This is because the servicing costs are likely to be higher as you will be replacing the tyres and the brakes. If you have a shorter lease contract or are doing a lower mileage, you won’t have to pay for these so it may be more financially beneficial for you to pay for your servicing as you go.
What does a maintenance agreement include?
So, what does a maintenance package include?
- All routine servicing
- This includes oil and filter replacement and replacement tyres
- Other repair costs such as
- MOT tests
- Exhausts, cam belts, wiper blades, batteries, bulbs and starter motors
It should be noted that some maintenance agreements also include free collection and delivery to and from your local dealership when it is due for a service. It may also give you preferential booking times if there are urgent repairs that could keep your car off the road.
What doesn’t a maintenance agreement include?
As you can see, the maintenance agreement covers pretty much everything involved in a routine service. But, what doesn’t it include?
- Repairs due to accident damage
- This includes bent panels, dents etc.
- Missing or broken items
- This includes things such as scuffed alloy wheels or bent aerials
- Damaged windscreen and/or glass replacement
- Putting incorrect fuel in your car
- Repairs or replacement parts that are due to driver induced faults or driver error
- Vandalised and stolen wheels and/or tyres
Why should I get a maintenance agreement?
If you do a high mileage or have a longer lease contract, there are quite a few benefits to getting a maintenance agreement. For example;
- The monthly cost is fixed
- The cost of servicing can vary. So, having a maintenance agreement means you won’t be caught out by extra costs.
- Because of this fixed monthly cost, you won’t be caught out by rising costs
- The leasing company arranges the servicing
- This means you will be getting a first-class service.
How much will servicing my lease car cost?
We’ve explained what a maintenance agreement is and maybe you’ve decided it’s not for you. That’s understandable, it’s not for everyone. So, how much is servicing your lease car going to cost you?
As with everything related to car leasing, it depends. The cost of the service varies depending on the model and the manufacturer, as does the time between the services.
Some manufactures will set servicing at intervals of 20,000 miles or 2 years, whichever is soonest. Others will be 12,500 or once a year. Naturally, this will affect how much the servicing will cost.

Where can I get my lease car serviced?
We’ve established how much servicing your car will cost but where can you get your car serviced?
It is strongly recommended that you go through a franchised dealer to get your car serviced. This is more often than not stated in the terms and conditions of your agreement.
This is for a number of reasons, such as;
- The technicians will be highly trained
- If you go through a franchised dealer then you know that the technicians are going to have extensive experience and will be highly trained.
- They will have access to all the latest parts
- A franchised dealer will have access to the latest diagnostic equipment and genuine parts.
- Also, if there is any outstanding recall work or software updates, they will do this without any extra charge to you.
- They can record the service on the manufacturer’s database and in the servicing book you will receive.
- Many dealerships offer a collection and delivery service plus courtesy car for the duration of the service
Do I need to get my car serviced at a franchised dealer?
You can get your lease car serviced at any franchised dealer. There is no rule that states you need to go back to the supply garage. As long as the dealership supplies vehicles of the same brand as your own you can get it serviced wherever you are.
While getting your car serviced at a franchised dealer may cost a little bit more, it’s worth it. If you don’t get your car serviced properly then you could incur fines. While the servicing costs are not included in your lease agreement, you can add them onto your monthly payments in the form of a maintenance agreement. If you have a longer contract or do a higher mileage, then a maintenance agreement is definitely something you should consider.
