The Top 10 Concept Cars of 2013

Here are our Top 10 Concept Cars of 2013

10. Cadillac Elmiraj Concept

Cadillac Elmiraj Concept

A full-size rear-wheel drive Cadillac coupe powered by a modern 4.5 liter turbocharged V8 engine making over 500 hp. What’s not to like? More than just a pretty face the Elmiraj is also said to feature some impressive mechanics. Like many concept cars, we may never see it on the road, but even if we don’t, Cadillac has said that the concept marks the manufacturer’s designs for the future.

9. Nissan BladeGlider

When you combine two of the most advanced cars out there the result is the Nissan BladeGlider. Taking its power from the LEAF’s electric powertrain and with its undeniable resemblance to the DeltaWing, when it debuted at the Tokyo Motor Show in November the BladeGlider was one of the strangest cars we saw this year.

8. Subaru Sport Cross Design

Subaru call this a ‘wagon’, but we think it’s more of a BRZ-based SUV/Crossover/Estate. But is that important? All we know is that if Subaru are making a car with higher ground clearance, there will be ample room for its turbocharged FA20 engine.

7. Nissan IDx Concepts

When Nissan showed us 2 IDx concepts at the Tokyo Motor Show, rumours were rampant that this was competition for the Toyota FR-S. The 2 concepts were like Beauty and the Beast with the stunning NISMO edition which features a 1.6 litre turbocharged four cylinder engine.

6. Pininfarina Sergio Concept

One of the more peculiar debuts of 2013 was this backwards looking sports car that was based on the Ferrari 258 Italia, it’s reported that the Sergio concept keeps all of the 458 Italia driving characteristics and be a little lighter on the scales.

5. Toyota Supra Inspired GT 86

The name says it all. This is a super and turbocharged Toyota GT 86 with Supra inspired body work by Gazoo Racing (Toyota’s Partner). This made its debut at the Tokyo Motor Show, you may not see one on the street near you but keep a look out if you are playing Gran Turismo 6 where there are many Supra concepts on display.

4. Subaru WRX Concept

When Subaru debuted the WRX concept at the New York Motor Show it marked a new era for the manufacturer. Gone was the uninteresting and conventional designs and here was a car that demonstrated the contemporary and elegant designs Subaru are capable of producing. I think Mazda should watch their back!

3.  Aston Martin CC100 Concept

Aston Martin CC100 Concept

To mark the 100th anniversary of Aston Martin we were shown this crazy looking sports car. With a V12 Vantage chassis and a range of styling elements of the company’s classic race cars such as the 1659 DRB1, the CC100 Concept also hinted at where Aston Martin could take the design in the future.

2. ItalDesign Giugiaro Parcour

We think someone was a little tipsy when Lamborghini created a car that they could enter in the Dakar Rally (I know). Looking like a weekend car for Mad Max the Parcour does exemplify everything that a concept car should be; surprising, ridiculous and awesome.

1. Mercedes AMG Vision Gran Turismo

Mercedes AMG Vision Gran Turismo

It’s common knowledge that few people will ever drive a concept car (unless you happen to be a certain Top Gear presenter) but one of the best things about this car is that even you could get to drive it as the Mercedes AMG Vision Gran Turismo was designed and built exclusive for Gran Turismo 6.

Though we have seen concept cars in video games before, this is the first ever time one was actually constructed and shown to the world. Hopefully we will get to see more of these in the future.
